At YAKA, we love fun, colorful and creative nail art, but there's no compromising on health! Have you ever wondered what's really in nail polish? Today, we're going to tell you which ingredients to avoid in nail polish, to help you make the best choices for yourself!
1. Formaldehyde
Often used to harden nails, this component is actually a carcinogen. It can also irritate the eyes, skin or respiratory tract. An ingredient to avoid at all costs!
2. Toluene
Toluene helps the polish spread easily, but it can cause headaches, nausea and disrupt the nervous system. It can also cause skin allergies.
3. Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP)
This component makes polishes more flexible and resistant, but it is banned in cosmetics in Europe because it can affect hormonal development.
4. Synthetic Camphor
Natural camphor is fine. But the synthetic version can cause dizziness, nausea and allergic reactions.
5. Xylene and Styrene
These ingredients help polish dry quickly, but they are toxic to the nervous system and can cause headaches or dizziness.
6. Colophony
Colophony (or pine resin) is a natural ingredient but can cause allergic skin reactions, especially on sensitive skin. It is often used in polishes to improve adhesion, but at YAKA, we prefer to leave it in the cupboard!
Before buying a polish, always remember to check the list of ingredients and if you want a fun and safe manicure, discover our YAKA nail polish sets.
